After fire, storm, water or other property damage:

  • Photograph damage
  • Protect the property from further damage
  • Keep receipts for temporary repairs
  • Prepare an inventory
  • Contact the insurer promptly
  • Do not permanently repair or discard major damaged property before documenting it unless safety requires otherwise
